February 2009 — The University of the Philippines Diliman in its annual Linggo ng Parangal paid tribute to successful and outstanding educators, students, researchers and extension experts. Three of these notable professionals came from the UP Diliman Libraries.

At the Parangal sa mga Retirado at Gawad Paglilingkod 2008 held at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium last February 26th, University Librarian Ms. SALVACION M. ARLANTE was one of the three service awardees of Gawad Paglilingkod for her 40 years of dedicated service to the University of the Philippines. In this program, UP officials also paid homage to retirees for the first half of the year 2008, one of them was Mr. ARNEL C. ZAFRA of the University Library.

The highlight of the Linggo ng Parangal was the Gawad Chanselor Award, the highest recognition given to exceptional UP constituents. The program was held at the NISMED Auditorium last February 27th. One of the awardees of the 2009 Natatanging REPS (professional staff category) was Ms. SHARON MA. S. ESPOSO,  College Librarian of the Engineering Library II (EnggLib II). She was bestowed upon for her instrumental role in the establishment of the EnggLib II and also in the development of the UP iLib system. Meanwhile, the 2009 Natatanging Kawani (professional supervisory category) was conferred to Mr. CHITO N. ANGELES, Information Technology Officer of the University Library, for his remarkable contributions in the transformation of the University’s integrated library system.
