IPN now up on the Web

The web-based version of the Index to Philippine Newspapers (IPN), U.P. Diliman Main Library’s index to nine locally published newspapers, is now available online for free access.
Dubbed as the Index to Philippine Newspapers Online, the database is an offshoot of an earlier IPN automation undertaking of the UPDML, which began in 1991. It was later on revived by Mr. CHITO N. ANGELES when he joined the Library in 2001. This venture likewise became his Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) thesis project and was finally completed in the last quarter of 2006.
In a lecture series held at the UP Institute of Library and Information Science (UPILIS) last February 14th, Mr. Angeles talked about how the project was conceived, has progressed, up until it has become fully operational. He then gave an overall demonstration of the IPN Online’s main features before his audience of information professionals, and entertained inquiries by way of a discussion forum which followed afterwards.
Angeles is currently the Information Technology Officer and Head of the Computer Services Section of the University Library, U.P. Diliman. He also teaches Information Technology (IT) courses, specializing in database design and web development, at the UPILIS.
