25 August 2006 – The book, Kuwentong Bayan: Noong Panahon ng Hapon, a project of the University Center for Women’s Studies was launched at the Special Collections Section of the University Library. Dr. THELMA B. KINTANAR, spearheaded the project, along with Dr. CLEMEN C. AQUINO, Prof. PATRICIA B. ARINTO and Dr. MA. LUISA T. CAMAGAY.

Aside from launching the book, the Kuwentong Bayan Project recognized the efforts and participation of the contributors, all of whom lived and survived World War II. In addition, the project also turned over to the University Library the materials they used, including correspondences, the participants’ contributions, audio tapes and other materials.

The event was also a reunion to all the members and participants of the Kuwentong Bayan Project. Dean Ramon G. Acoymo of the UP College of Music serenaded the guests with Filipino folk songs.

The book is a compilation of life during the Japanese Occupation. It is not only a testament to human resilience in the face of adversity, but also a reminder of the horrors of war. –ECLagrama
