The Judge Guillermo Guevara Room was officially turned over to the University Library of UP Diliman on 1 June 2012.  Representing the Guevara family were Willie Guevara and Ricardo Guevara, grandson and son of the prominent judge respectively, while representing the University were UP President Alfredo E. Pascual and Elvira B. Lapuz of the University Library as witness.

The Guevara Collection was donated to the University Library in 1976, under the then University Librarian Ms. Marina Dayrit.  Since then it has become a permanent fixture of the University Library.  In mid-2011, the family decided to renovate the room for the benefit of future researchers.

The collection covers penal sciences, economics, history, literature and philosophy.  Aside from containing the papers and book collection, the Guevara Room also houses memorabilia from the judge’s life, including photos, diplomas, medals and four oil paintings of the National Artist Fernando Amorsolo.  The four artworks on permanent display are “Ang Wakas ni Magallanes”, “The Assasination of Governor Bustamante”, “Bataan”, and a portrait of Judge Guevara.

Interested researchers may contact the Librarian’s Office at (02)9818500 local 2852 or the Special Collections Section at (02)9818500 loc. 2855.
