Felipe Padilla de Leon Commemorative Stamp

The family of the late National Artist for Music Felipe Padilla de Leon and the UP College of Music donated a sheet of commemorative stamps to celebrate the birth centenary of the National Artist. It was designed by National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

Felipe De Leon was best known for translating the Philippine National Anthem from Spanish to Filipino. His interest in music and innate nationalism inspired him to write numerous and familiar songs, known to generations of Filipinos such as Bahay Kubo, Magtanim ay Di Biro, Pasko Na Naman and Paru-parong Bukid. De Leon’s orchestral music include Mariang Makiling Overture (1939), Roca Encantada, symphonic legend (1950), Maynila Overture (1976), Orchesterstuk (1981); choral music likePayapang Daigdig, Ako’y Pilipino, Lupang Tinubuan, Ama Namin; and songs Bulaklak,Alitaptap, Mutya ng Lahi.
